François A. Ouimet

François A. Ouimet is a Montreal-based choral conductor with a wide-ranging career. He is Chorusmaster for the Choeur Métropolitain de Montréal, directed by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.  He directs the Elementary, High School, and College level choirs at Vincent d'Indy Music School.  He is musical director of les Voix Ferrées, an eclectic community choir that has collaborated with such artists as Patrick Watson, the McGarrigle sisters, and les Soeurs Boulay. From 2009 to 2015, he conducted the choirs at McGill's Schulich School of Music.

He has collaborated on various projects with Oscar-winning composer Benoît Charest, Patrick Watson, and Karen Young. He is equally at ease in Renaissance and 20th century repertoire, and has premiered many contemporary choral works. He has a thorough knowledge of jazz and pop, being trained as an electric guitar player.

François A. Ouimet is regularly invited across the country to give workshops and conferences on choral music. He also composes and arranges for choir.
